Advice and Representation
The Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) is recognised as the independent and authoritative voice of hospital consultants in Ireland. We represent the vast majority of hospital consultants working in Ireland, advocating at every level of the health system — from Government Departments and policy makers to health insurers, employers, and regulators.
Expert Advice and Personal Support
IHCA members have access to one-to-one, confidential advice and assistance on a wide range of issues, including:
- Contract interpretation and negotiations with health service employers and private hospitals
- Employment, industrial relations and workplace matters
- Pensions, salary, and superannuation queries
- Incorporation, taxation, and medico-legal guidance
- GDPR and data protection
- Private practice management and Clinical Indemnity
Where necessary, members have access to the Association’s dedicated Legal and Financial Services Panels, providing access to a range of expert advisers for specialist advice at preferential rates, including an initial consultation free of charge. Please see details here and here.
Representation and Advocacy
The Association provides strong, visible representation on behalf of members through:
- National negotiations on contractual and employment matters
- Local and site-level representation on resourcing, disputes, and workplace grievances
- Engagement with key decision-makers on policy reform, capacity planning, and healthcare investment
- Media engagement and public advocacy to ensure consultants’ voices are heard in the national debate
Our advocacy is evidence-based, informed by regular member surveys and expert policy submissions that shape the national conversation on healthcare delivery and reform.
