A Day In the Life of a Consultant

In the Irish public health system, your Consultant is a team leader who is responsible for ensuring you get the best possible care. Your Consultant is unique in that he or she works in a number of different settings each day. In many instances, they may have responsibilities in more than one hospital.

Below is an example of a Consultant's day. In addition to a full day's work, he or she may be called in to the hospital at night to deal with emergencies, which regularly require life saving decisions and care.
