A Day In the Life of a Consultant
The Consultant in Irish Hospitals is the team leader responsible for ensuring your get the best possible care. He is unique in that he works in a number of different setting each day. In many instances, he may have responsibilities in more than one hospital.
Below is an example of a consultant's day. In addition to the full day's work he may be called in to the hopsital at night to deal with emergencies, which regularly require life saving decesions and care.

| 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm | Out Patients Clinic in Hospital 2 |
| 5.30 pm – 6.30 pm | Post Operative Ward Rounds |
| 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm | Correspondence, Meetings, Research, etc |
| 7.30 pm – 7.30 am | On Call for emergencies during the night |
