Reduced Inpatient and Day Care Services in HSE Plan Will Compromise Patient SafetyThe Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) has expressed its concerns regarding the HSE National Service Plan which was published today (Wednesday 18th December 2013). Commenting on the Service Plan, Denis Evoy, President of the IHCA said: “The Plan acknowledges that the demand for health services is increasing every year, yet it provides for reduced inpatient and day care in acute hospitals. Consultants are concerned that this will restrict them in treating the increasing number of patients that are likely to present for care in hospitals. There is a concern that this will increase waiting lists and compromise patient care and safety.”Mr Evoy welcomed the provisions in the Plan for diabetic retinopathy, organ donation and transplantation, and bilateral cochlear implants.
